Frequently asked questions

General information questions

Specialist Wellness Counselling is a supportive and structured approach to emotional wellbeing that focuses on helping you better understand yourself, manage life’s challenges, and improve your overall mental and emotional health. It can help you by providing a safe space to talk about what you are going through, gain clarity on your thoughts and emotions, and develop healthier ways of coping with stress, overwhelm, and emotional difficulties. It also supports personal growth, self-awareness, and the ability to navigate life with more confidence and emotional balance.

While talking to a friend can be comforting, counselling offers a confidential and professional space that is focused entirely on you and your wellbeing. A counsellor is trained to listen without judgement, help you explore deeper patterns, and support you in understanding your thoughts and emotions in a more structured way.

The relationship between you and your counsellor is an important part of the process, and it’s completely normal for it to take time to feel comfortable. If you feel that the connection is not right for you, it is okay to communicate this. Counselling is most effective when you feel safe, understood, and supported, and sometimes that may mean working with a different counsellor. The goal is always to ensure you feel comfortable and supported in your journey.

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to share what has brought you to counselling. There is no pressure to share everything at once. The focus is on creating a safe and comfortable space where you can speak at your own pace. We will explore what you are currently experiencing, what support you may need, and what you would like to work towards. This session also helps you get a sense of the counselling process and whether it feels like the right fit for you.

Yes, confidentiality is a key part of the counselling process. Everything you share in sessions remains private and is not discussed outside of counselling. The only exceptions to confidentiality are rare situations where there may be a risk of harm to yourself or others, or where legal requirements apply. These boundaries will always be explained clearly at the beginning of the counselling process so you feel fully informed.

Specialized concerns questions

Counselling can support you with a wide range of emotional experiences. This includes stress, anxiety, burnout, grief, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, and challenges related to self-esteem or life transitions. The focus is not on labelling you, but on understanding what you are experiencing and helping you find healthier ways to cope and move forward.

Yes. Counselling can help you understand the underlying causes of anxiety and overthinking, as well as how these patterns affect your thoughts, emotions, and daily life. Together, we work on building awareness, identifying triggers, and developing practical tools to help you feel more grounded and in control.

Yes. Burnout is often a sign that you have been under prolonged emotional or mental strain. Counselling can help you slow down, understand what is contributing to your exhaustion, and begin to rebuild balance in a way that feels manageable and supportive

Yes. Grief is a deeply individual experience, and counselling provides a safe space to process loss at your own pace. There is no timeline for grief, and counselling supports you in understanding and navigating your emotions without pressure or expectation.

That is completely okay. Many people start counselling feeling unsure or overwhelmed by what they are experiencing. Part of the counselling process is helping you make sense of what is going on internally, even if you don’t have the words for it yet.
